Witness the Future at the iGEM 2021 Giant Jamboree

Witness the Future at the iGEM 2021 Giant Jamboree

The future of the synthetic biology industry will be on display at the iGEM 2021 Giant Jamboree, held online November 4-14. As the culminating event of iGEM’s annual synthetic biology competition, the Giant Jamboree will feature a myriad of cutting-edge innovations created by the world’s brightest young synthetic biologists from universities and high schools across the globe.

This year, over 350 teams of student scientists and engineers from 46 countries and regions spent the past eight months designing, building and testing biological systems to solve local problems that help tackle global challenges – from climate change and environmental degradation to sustainable agriculture, human health, and more. And for the second year in a row, these teams have had to confront the challenges of working within the context of a global pandemic.

Starting November 4, the 2021 iGEM teams will gather together with their peers, members of the synthetic biology research community, industry leaders, policy makers, and the public to celebrate their work and accomplishments. No doubt, many will be adorned with iGEM Merch as part of the festivities.

Project Discovery & Judging (Nov 4-7)

During the first 4 days of the Giant Jamboree, an international panel of judges will evaluate the team projects based on multiple criteria, including excellence in engineering, safety, human practices, measurement, and more.

Nominations Release (Nov 9)

For the first time in iGEM’s history, nominees for Track Awards, Special Prizes, and the Grand Prize will be announced mid-week before the closing awards ceremony.

Jamboree Meetups (Nov 12-14)

The Jamboree Meetups are regional/national in-person events that will be held at over a dozen locations around the world to provide teams with a new opportunity to come together and connect with their local communities and stakeholders.

Awards Ceremony (Nov 14)

The moment we’ll all be waiting for … when the finalists and winners of the iGEM 2021 competition are announced!

After these past eight long months of hard work and dedication, we’re excited to see what the 2021 iGEM teams have accomplished. Can’t wait to see you at the Giant Jamboree!
