On the Road to Paris: Meet iGEMers, build connections, and find your next opportunity!
by Hassnain Q Bokhari & Dorothy Zhang
on behalf of iGEM Community
For the first time in nearly three years, the world’s largest SynBio community will be gathering together in person for the iGEM Grand Jamboree. With over 40 different countries and regions represented, Jamboree participants bring with them a wealth of knowledge in different topic areas, and a diversity of expertise – from academic research to commercial ventures to governance and policy making. Yet despite its highly interdisciplinary nature (or perhaps because of it) the SynBio community is known to be welcoming, and the Grand Jamboree is the perfect place for everyone to gather together in person:
to connect with your fellow iGEM teams,
to reunite with old friends,
interact with leaders in the field,
meet face-to-face with those you’ve met online, and
connect on topics you care most about.
Check out the Meetups spaces at the Grand Jamboree for networking opportunities for you to:
Connect with individuals and build your career
Academia & Research – Get a chance to meet individuals who are working in Academia and scientific research. Find out your potential next collaborator, colleague or a friend who shares similar interests.
Industry– Network with industry professionals and those looking to step into the synthetic biology industry in any capacity.
Science Communication – Network with iGEM teams and alumni alike to hear about how they have shared their science, overcome the barriers in communication and the challenges of bridging the gap between science and society.
Deliberate about the challenges synthetic biology is facing and learn about solutions being applied around the world
Shipping of biological materials – Share your experiences and challenges relating to the shipment of biological material (including kits of iGEM Teams), and map challenges for global shipping.
Building local communities – Meet and connect with individuals leading synthetic biology communities around the world, learn about the challenges they are facing and what can you do together.
Meet your regional synthetic biology community and iGEM teams
Regional meetups – Now that you're done with the iGEM Competition, let's come together and hear from each other about our iGEM journey in Latin America and Africa. What we learnt from it, what has it inspired us to do, what were the challenges we faced and how can they be solved.
Celebrate and have some fun in Paris
Phages vs Bacteria – The name of the mystery style game is "Phages vs Bacteria”. It requires a team effort to determine who is the secret phage among all participants. During the activity, there will be a secret phage infecting the bacteria. Can you find the secret ph-agent before getting infected?
The Language Meetups – Merci. Gracias. 谢谢. شكرًا. धन्यवाद. Thank you! Our community speaks many different languages, and the Jamboree will be the perfect time to exchange and learn together about each other.
We invite you to build your SynBio network at the Grand Jamboree!
