BridgeBio: Connecting the Synthetic Biology Industry and Community
by Sumohit Sharma on behalf of project BridgeBio
The new iGEM year has started with teams from universities and research institutions worldwide working on innovative biological systems using synthetic biology techniques to tackle real-world challenges. iGEM offers students an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in scientific research and communication while collaborating with teams from different fields and disciplines.
However, iGEM is much more than that; it's a thriving community of individuals and teams passionate about synthetic biology or engineering of biology. The iGEM community provides a platform for students, academics, researchers, industry professionals, and enthusiasts to collaborate, network, and advance the field of synthetic biology. The community promotes responsible and ethical use of synthetic biology for the benefit of society, providing opportunities for mentoring and networking and access to resources, funding, specialist equipment, and facilities.
The Project
The BridgeBio project aims to bring iGEMers and iGEM stakeholders, industrialists, and bio-founders closer together to benefit each other in different areas and strengthen iGEM and synthetic biology in their communities. It aims to build an open and inclusive SynBio business community where people can share knowledge and network, and empower and support women and underrepresented groups interested in the synthetic biology job market with resources, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
SynBio Industry Workshops & Talks
BridgeBio is planning a series of workshops and talks with stakeholders, industrialists, and bio-founders, offering participants comprehensive insight into the commercial side of synthetic biology, practical skills and conceptual knowledge they can apply to their own research or business. BridgeBio will also offer career orientation workshops to inform high-school students about iGEM and the iGEM community.
BridgeBio Blog
BridgeBio will also host a series of blogs where business leaders, industrialists, and ex-iGEMers will talk about their journey into the commercial side of synthetic biology and discuss career opportunities and challenges in the field.
If you're interested in the aims of BridgeBio, follow their blogs to stay informed and participate in the workshops and talks.
